At our last retreat, Father Evan came in to speak to us and shared a quote by Father Mycal Judge:
Lord, take me where You want me to go,
let me meet who You want me to meet,
tell me what You want me to say,
and help keep me out of Your way.
Mycal Judge was a priest in New York City, and a chaplain for the New York Fire Department. He is known as the “Saint of 9/11;” he stayed with his battalion of fire fighters at the World Trade Center, and prayed with them just before the North Tower collapsed, which also took his life. His last public word were in response to Mayor Rudy Guliani’s calling out, “Father Mike, pray for us!” to which Father Mycal replied, “I always do! I always pray for you!”
If you want to read more about Father Mycal Judge, please see this blog. I offer my simple photo and his quote as an inspiring reminder of one man’s work. Sometimes to do the work we were placed on Earth to do, we just need to be mindfully present of God’s presence in our life, welcoming His spirit, and instead of looking to do our own will, looking to do God’s will. It’s a delicate dance, and one that takes daily practice.
