Laura Simms, of Your Career Homecoming joins me for an interview on the podcast this week. Starting in 2011, Laura began working with people to help them find a career that provides the meaning, money, and impact they desire. In other words, she helps them find a career that feels like home.
Laura was on the podcast three times in Season 2, and I was really excited to have her come back. There has been so much change in the world over the past few weeks, from many people working from home for the first time, to others losing their jobs, and I wanted to ask her about what she’s seeing to be true for people as they navigate possible career change during the Coronavirus pandemic.
What she shares in this episode is a story of people leaning into careers that are a better fit in the cross fade. Instead of quitting or stopping one career to jump into the next, they are building one alongside the job they already have. I loved hearing Laura talk about this:
“I talk about [the transition of jobs] with my clients in a crossfade, where the old career is fading out and the new career is fading in. So there’s not this abrupt stop.. start. But we can build this transition period.
And I think this is actually a great time to be working on a crossfade, you know? Not to be just wandering around, trying to figure stuff out, but being able to pursue a targeted goal. Where you know what the target is, and then make a plan to get there.”
In this episode, Laura Simms and I talk about:
-The kinds of people she works with
-Marketing during a pandemic
-The trends she’s seeing in people looking to make a career change now
-How to make the change: define what you want, and then make a plan to get there
-Developing Quiet Confidence
-How to know if you’re ready for a career transition
