Ugly Christmas Sweater Round-up 2012

Ugly Christmas Sweaters are a favorite topic here at Welcoming Spirit during the Holiday Season. Four years ago, I wrote a “How to Make an Ugly Christmas Sweater” post that continues to be the most visited story on this blog.

To honor the tradition of ugly sweaters this year, here’s a round up of my favorites. First, though, let’s look at what started this phenom.

Here are Sean and I at my holiday party in 2008, wearing the sweaters we made. You can read the tutorials on how we did it on this post.

Looking back through the photos of that evening, I came across ones of this couple, who had made decorated their sweaters using popcorn, candy, and ornaments. They told me they just used sweaters they already had. Clever, no?

The lady on the left is sporting a Christmas tree, and on the gentleman fashioned a snowflake on his. Here they are showing of the “dangling bits” of candy canes and ornaments. These two were big crowd pleasers.

I’ve found (and pinned) a ton of great ugly Christmas sweaters on Pinterest (check out my board for inspiration), and here are a few of my absolute favorites. This one looks like something that I could do, and I love the tinsel accents around the neck and sleeves.

These gentlemen are quite festive, and have an inviting air about them.  I swear the one on the left looks just like a boy I went to high school with. Looking good, John B!!

I’d love the backstory on this guy … drinking wine in a toy store? Dude, I can totally relate!

And if you’re looking for one to buy, here are a few beauts that are available for purchase:

Happy Holidays! 🙂
